Individual Retirement Account (IRA)
RatesYou are never too young to open an IRA for the earlier you open it, the more your money will grow and the more you will have to enjoy in your retirement years. You may be able to deduct some or all of your contributions and, in most cases, the money in your IRA is not taxed until distributed (check with a tax advisor). And with the help of Payroll Allocation, you can keep adding to your IRA each month up to the maximum contribution allowed. Save with confidence as all of our IRAs are insured by NCUA up to $250,000.
- Traditional IRA: The contribution limit to your Traditional IRA each year is $5,000 -- through 2010. If you are 50 or older, you can make additional catch-up contributions up to $1,000 above the normal limit through 2010.
- Roth IRA: The Roth IRA also allows a maximum annual contribution of up to $5,000 each year through 2010. If you are 50 or older, you may make additional contributions up to $1,000 more than the normal limit through 2010. Roth IRA contributions aren't tax deductible; however, withdrawals are tax-free once the account has been open more than five years and you're at least 59 1/2 years old.
Education Savings Accounts: Previously known as Coverdell IRA's let you contribute up to $2,000 per year for each child. Your contributions are not tax deductible but your principal and earnings will not be subject to tax when you withdraw the funds for education expenses. Funds can also be transferred from one child's account to another child's account within the family.
