According to a study in the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, researchers found a link between increased physical activity and improved work performance among workers. Credit Union of Denver employees had the opportunity to participate in a companywide fitness challenge.
Employees formed teams, tracked their combined active minutes, and the team with the most minutes wins. The purpose of this challenge was simply to encourage employees to be active! Just 5 minutes of physical activity can boost your mood, according to the American Psychological Association (APA).
Over the course of 7 weeks, we had an impressive amount of participation, with 9 teams made up of 54 participants, logging thousands of minutes of activity. Not surprising since according to the CDC, Colorado is the most physically active state in the country, with 82.7% of residents being physically active.
Employees logged time doing activities including cycling, hiking, swimming, stretching, martial arts, and more! The events with the highest total logged minutes were:
- Walking - 73,080 Total Minutes (average 18 minutes per mile = 4,060 miles walked)
- Strength training - 16,024 Total Minutes
- Sports - 11,455 Total Minutes
Congratulations to the top 3 teams of the fitness challenge…
