What does Overdraft Protection mean for you? Our products have your back! In times of need, here are some overdraft services and options that come in handy!

Overdraft Protection This free service gives you the choice to have available funds in either your Prime Share Account or Money Market Account automatically transferred to your free Checking Account in the event an overdraft occurs. You are limited to a total of 6 automated transfers per month.

Overdraft Line of Credit You may apply for an Overdraft Line of Credit which will transfer funds to your checking account when an overdraft occurs. (You are charged interest on the balance of the loan. No charge will be assessed if you don’t use the service.)

Overdraft Privilege

Overdraft Privilege is another option that can be used in addition to the two choices above. This courtesy service is offered for checks, ACH transactions, Automatic Bill Payments (not those initiated through C•U•D’s Bill Pay service) and reoccurring debit card transactions.

If you qualify* for Overdraft Privilege, you are automatically enrolled in this service. Any owner may opt-out at any time by submitting a written request. At the credit union’s discretion, this service will pay the above mentioned items through your free Checking Account up to $500 more than the available account balance. This total includes fees. These items will not be returned to the original payee but will be processed and your account will be charged a $30 Non-Sufficient Funds (NSF) fee per transaction. Without this service, you would pay the same $30 NSF fee and you could be subject to additional fees from the merchant for the bounced check or returned item(s). Items will be paid in the order they are received by the credit union, not when the transaction occurred, which may create more than one NSF fee per day. If a declined transaction is received more than one time, it is possible to receive an NSF fee more than once on one transaction. There is no limit on the total fees that can be charged for overdrawing your account, as long as it is under $500 (plus your available account balance). Negative account balances must be brought positive within 30 days.

Debit Card Advantage  This service allows you to continue to use your debit card either at a merchant or through an ATM even if you do not have funds available in your account.

If you qualify* for Debit Card Advantage, you must opt-in for this service. Any owner on the account  may also opt-out at any time. If you opt-in for this service, Credit Union of Denver may authorize and pay everyday debit card transactions and allow debit card ATM withdrawals up to $500 more than the available account balance. This total includes fees. Without this service, you would be unable to utilize your debit card when there are no funds in your account and you will be charged a $30 fee for each transaction of more than $5 posting to your account. No fee will be charged for transactions of $5 or less. There is no limit on the total fees that can be charged for overdrawing your account. Negative account balances must be brought positive within 30 days.

With products that provide overdraft protection and convenience to our members, they contain a little fine print. We have kept it big so you don’t have to look through a magnifying glass!

Fine Print

*To qualify for Overdraft Privilege and Debit Card Advantage, the primary member must be at least 18 years of age, the checking account must have been opened for over 90 days. The account must not have a loan over 15 days past due, your account must be in good standing and you must not have caused a loss to the credit union. The combined benefit of Overdraft Privilege and Debit Card Advantage is $500. If you opt-out for Overdraft Privilege, you will not be able to opt-in for Debit Card Advantage.
