Honoring Those Who Have Served

November 11th, is recognized as Veterans Day, a national holiday in the U.S. Each year Veterans Day affords Americans the opportunity to pay our respects to all who serve or have served our country through the Armed Forces during times of peace and of war.

On this significant day, we pause and salute all of those who have served and honor the tremendous sacrifices made by members of the U.S. armed forces and their families to preserve our freedom. From all of us at Credit Union of Denver, this Veterans Day and always, thank you for your service.

Did you know…

Veterans Day marks when Germany and the Allies signed an agreement in 1918 to end the first World War, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. A year later, Woodrow Wilson proclaimed November 11th as the first commemoration of Armistice Day, to celebrate and observe the end of hostilities.

The anniversary continued to be commemorated, and eventually in 1926, resolution was adopted by Congress making November 11th a legal holiday. In 1954, a Congressional Bill changed the name to Veterans Day and made it a federal holiday.

There are many ways to show your appreciation and support for our country’s veterans. Consider getting involved in your local veterans’ organizations by either volunteering, donating resources, or simply acknowledge a veteran for their service when you meet one. You can also patron a veteran-owned business or visit Veterans Hospital patients. Other options are attending a Veterans Day event in your area and donating to Veteran-Focused charities.

We offer our sincere thanks to the veterans among our staff, for your personal sacrifices, past and present. We’re grateful for your wisdom and experience within the Credit Union. To our staff whose spouse, partner, or child is a veteran or is currently serving our country: thank you for supporting them in their decision to serve and we look forward to their safe return. Although we honor you with a special holiday, please know that you are remembered every day of the year.
